Why choose us?

We are the official fostering service for Liverpool City Council and there are currently more than 1400 looked after children in Liverpool.

Whenever possible we use our in-house foster carers, so we can support local children in their own communities, to give them access to familiar things, help them maintain their friendships and education and make life as normal as possible for them.

We are therefore looking for more local authority foster carers to work with us, to bring stability and continuity to local children’s lives, and really make a difference to their future.

If you'd like to pursue a rewarding role as a foster carer, we will support you every step of the way, to help you rewrite a child’s story towards a better future.

Professional Support

When you are approved as a foster carer with us, you are assigned a dedicated supervising social worker and family support worker to support you through your fostering journey. They are in regular contact to provide support and guidance and they are able to introduce you to a wider network of specialist partner services that exist within the council.  Including education, health, police, and housing associations. 24-hour support is also available.

The fostering service has backup from social workers and behaviour specialists, there’s lots of support out there. You don’t have to do it alone

Training and Personal Development

We provide a pre-approval training course during the application process called ‘skills to foster’, to give you a real insight into the life of a foster carer and a child in care before you take on the role.  Once you are approved, there are many opportunities to learn and develop your skills across a wide range of topics, which are reflected and rewarded with our skills-based payment structure.  Read more about our support and training here

Skills-based Payments Structure

As a foster carer with Liverpool, you’ll receive a skills-based professional fee, which increases as you gain experience and attend training to develop your skills. You’ll also receive an allowance per foster child to contribute towards day-to-day expenses.

Robust Matching Process

When you foster with Liverpool, we will always look to our in-house foster carers so we can find children foster families who can most closely match their needs, but also take into account our foster carers' needs and preferences when introducing new children to them.

As part of the application process, we learn about the type of fostering that would suit your skills, experience, and lifestyle and this is taken into account as part of the matching process.

You will become part of a great fostering community

When you foster for Liverpool you’ll enjoy the chance to meet and socialise with other foster families, at regular foster carer forums, social events such as a Christmas party, and join in competitions to win tickets to the theatre and sporting events!  Regular foster carer forums are a great way to meet other carers and learn from each other and professionals in a relaxed and social environment.

I would like to say a massive thank you for inviting us to the Christmas Party. Our children enjoyed themselves so much. My eldest moaned about having to go, but once there it was such an eye opener when she saw so many children and realised it’s not just her who is in foster care.
