Launch of the Foster Care Association
- Blogs and News

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Liverpool Foster Care Association (LFCA)—a brand-new initiative created by foster carers, for foster carers. This is a big step forward in bringing Liverpool’s fostering community together and making sure foster carers get the support they need to give children the best possible start in life.
Supporting Foster Carers
Foster carers play such an important role in changing the lives of children in care. That’s why the LFCA has been set up—to create a space where foster carers can come together to share advice, support each other, and feel part of a community that understands the challenges and rewards of fostering.
The LFCA will provide:
- Peer support – connecting with other foster carers who understand what you’re going through
- Advocacy – giving foster carers a stronger voice
- Shared learning – a place to exchange advice and experiences
Cllr Liz Parsons, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, highlighted why this is so important:
“I know how important it is for foster carers to feel supported as part of a community. The Liverpool Foster Care Association is a great opportunity for foster carers to have a shared voice, build their networks, and offer each other valuable support.”
- Liz Parsons
A Big Thank You to Our Supporters
The LFCA’s official launch took place at LFC Anfield—and what a day it was! A huge thank you to the LFC Foundation for hosting the event and providing some amazing food.
We were also treated to a breath-taking performance by Aerial Gymnastics, which told the powerful story of Brad Kella growing up in foster care—there wasn’t a dry eye in the room!
We’d also like to give a big shout out to:
- The Lodge Wellness Centre – for their ongoing support
- Costco – for the delicious cookies and cakes
- Home and Bargains – for their generous contributions
Your support shows just how much we can achieve when the community comes together!
Building A Stronger Future Together
Liverpool City Council is committed to working closely with the LFCA to keep the momentum going. The Council will offer financial support and work with the LFCA on key events like Foster Care Fortnight and the children’s Christmas party.
The LFCA will also have quarterly meetings with the Council to share ideas, raise any issues, and make sure foster carers' voices are heard. Plus, they’ll work alongside social workers and other professionals to create a strong support system for both foster carers and children in care.
Peter, who has been a foster carer in Liverpool for 18 years and is the Chair of the association, summed it up perfectly:
“This is more than just an association—it’s about foster carers coming together to shape the future of fostering in Liverpool. We’re building a stronger community, supporting each other, and making sure every child in care gets the best possible start in life.”
- Peter
The Liverpool Foster Care Association is here to make a real difference for foster carers and children across the city. If you’re a foster carer, this is your chance to connect, share, and be part of a supportive community that truly understands.
